Center Introduction

Our school’s art center was founded by the current President, Dr Wen-Yuen Chen, in 2018. The initial stages of the art center were operated through task grouping. Shortly after, in May of 2019, the first exhibition of the art center was jointly planned and exhibited by Associate Professors You-Qing Xie and Yu-Shan Ni of the School of General Education. In 2020, Professor Xiang-Lian Chen of the Department of Cultural and Creative Industries, in his role as the President’s special assistant, continued to plan and execute various types of art exhibitions as well as actively collected donated artworks for the school. After holding 21 separate art exhibitions, the art center passed our school’s administrative meeting in early 2022 with the support and affirmation of the teachers and student body. It will officially become a first-level administrative unit of the school on from August 1st, 2022 forward.

In addition to providing a platform for teachers and students of the school to learn about art and aesthetics independently, the art center continues to actively hold various types of art exhibitions every year. These exhibitions serves to enhance the teachers and students’ appreciation of various types of art, as well as fulfilling the responsibilities of promoting art and aesthetic education within the community. In addition to the existing annual curated exhibitions, the art center also provides one or two periods each year for professional artists and art groups, both at home and abroad, to apply for exhibitions. This is done in order to encourage and recommend outstanding artistic talents, which fulfils a social responsibility of the university. The art center has also been an important member of the “Art Highlights” of the Cultural Bureau of Taichung City Government since 2021. It actively participates in various arts and cultural activities in Taichung City as well as nationally, so as to lead our students to accumulate the artistic and social cultural skills needed for future social integration and employment.
