Preface from the Curator

 Since the Art Center of National Chin-Yi University has been established, there have been exhibitions on oil paintings, water paintings, pottery, calligraphy and colorful inks. Every exhibition includes the very representatives of modern artists in this country. This exhibition is planned as “Five Artist Exhibition of Taiwanese Glue Color Painters,” inviting the most famous Lin, Chun-Hung, Kao, Yung-Lung, Chien, Chin-Ching, Lin, Pi-Chiang and Ni,Yu-Shan in this field.

Generally speaking, the origin of “glue color” is established by Professor Lin, Zhi-Zhu from Taichung in 1977. Before then, it was called “Toyo Painting” during the Japanese occupation. In mainland China, people usually call it “heavy color painting” or “fine brush work painting”. In modern Taiwan, the college education on the glue color painting is originated from the Art Department of Tunghai University in Taichung. Professor Lin, Zhi-Zhu, the father of Taiwan Glue Color Painting, was hired as the chief professor. Three years later, the legacy was passed down to Professor Zhan, Qian-Yu and the education continues. The five artists invited by National Chin-Yi University are all outstanding painters on glue color located in Taichung.

Among the artists participating in this exhibition, Chin-Ching, Lin, Pi-Chiang used to work as master and apprentice in art institution. However, their styles differ a lot. In terms of the representations of the picture, both purse the soft beauty of glue color painting while presenting unique techniques and graceful tastes in their individual pictures. Kao, Yung-Lung now serves at National Taichung University of Education and his works are spectacular with grandeur, unique with very outstanding style. Ni, Yu-Shan serves at College of General Education of our school. With family influence her works reveal the beauty of female thoughts seen in all her paintings. Lin, Chun-Hung has won many awards in many significant contests and earned great recognition at National Art Exhibition. His works are therefore honored with exclusion from reviews.

National Chin-Yi University opens the new year of 2022 with the “Five Artist Exhibition of Taiwanese Glue Color Painters,” expecting to harvest a new field of art and beauty for students and teachers in school as well as residents nearby with all the great works from the five artists on glue color paintings.
