Preface from Art Center

After the principal Chen, Wen-Yuan of National Chin-Yi University of Technology established the Art Center, the center holds a special master exhibition every December during the school anniversary season as a celebration of the school’s birthday and as a memory and gratitude to the founders, General Chang Min and Ms. Wang Kuo-Hsiu. Happiness, Wealth, and Longevity: Joint Exhibition of Hung Yi, Chang Li-Yeh, and Po Wei-Huang is a large-scale and meaningful exhibition specially planned by the Art Center for this year’s school anniversary.

In Taiwan’s contemporary art ecosystem, Hung Yi is a master-level internationally renowned artist who is full of positive artistic energy and enthusiasm, and whose works are unique and down-to-earth. Since Hung Yi held his first joint exhibition in Taichung in 1997, he has been invited to exhibit numerous times in Taiwan and abroad. Whether it is his early two-dimensional paintings created in Warehouse No. 20, or his three-dimensional works that have been very well-known in international exhibitions in recent years, the messages of his works profoundly express the joyful beauty of Hung Yi, which symbolizes perfect “luck”, and is deeply loved by collectors in Taiwan and abroad. Chang Li-Yeh’s works have a unique style. Behind his bright but not kitsch colors and images, it is like a poet whispering a fable of compassion and concern for life. The works exhibited by Chang Li-Yeh are all oil paintings created in the past four years. Each work can be said to be a depiction and examination of the “wealth” of human nature. The richness of his artistic conception and the depth of his images are like the masterpieces of Eastern Surrealism. Po-Wei Huang has a PhD in art creation theory, and his creations break away from the limitations of traditional canvas and paint. His works like to use small creatures to extend the discussion of nature and humanities, especially the value of life in the time and space culture we live in today. He has the sociologist’s keen observation and deduction of thinking and understanding, and transforms it into his understanding of the “health and longevity’ of the common people. I hope that the wonderful series of works presented will be amazing.

In the joyful time of the 52nd school anniversary of the National Chin-Yi University of Technology, we are honored to invite Hung Yi, Chang Li-Yeh, and Po-Wei Huang to offer this joint exhibition. At the same time, this exhibition is also used to express gratitude and commemorate the founders, General Chang Min and Ms. Wang Kuo-Hsiu, for their dedication and selfless donation to the school.
